The Inevitable Fall
of an empire long gone
It is here
might happen today or tomorrow
the end is near
of an empire built on
the backs of slavery and occupation
one that heeds no call
steeps deeper into the trenches of war, capitalism
setting a benchmark of overconsumption
as dead babies deck the halls
what did you think happens when you trample
humanity at the footsteps of the world
weapons, fuel and money are ample
yet none will serve when the reckoning arrives
like the fruit that’s rotting from inside
one bite and the maggots come crawling
this fruit will collapse from within
because war begets war
and lest we forget
it’s cushy to watch from afar
not so much when it’s your home the torches met.
This is the kind of attitude that we need to have. A lot of people in the desi community think that overcoming colonization means getting validation. But we should be celebrating ourselves and recognizing the value of our own heritage and culture without the need for colonizer approval.
